At this point we give you a short update about readings with author Dr. Knuth Martens. The proceeds of the events as well as from the sale of the book will go to our association Menschenfreude e.V. and thus support the families affected by the war.
“Abandoned Land”: Reading with German-Ukrainian guests and music
On August 17, a reading from the book “Verlassenes Land” took place in the Community House in Alfter in front of an audience of about 65 people, including many Ukrainians. Author Dr. Knuth Martens gave insight into the moving days of the aid transport, which he himself accompanied. The evening was accompanied by two musicians, Diana and Maria (15 and 16) from Kiev. The church choir Sankt Cäcilia from Alfter-Impekoven summed up the evening with an excellently selected contribution: “Imagine all the people, livin’ life in peace…” The peace song by John Lennon.

Ukraine aid, school satchel campaign and well construction in Madagascar… in august it will go on here…
With the start of the summer vacations, we are also taking a short summer break in the Menschenfreude media. Behind the scenes, however, things are continuing apace: for example, with the school bag campaign run by Janine and Olli Drathen* in Bonn. Jürgen Perteck is involved with the well construction project in Madagascar, among other things. And the aid transports for the people affected by the war in Ukraine also continue – thanks to many volunteers. In mid-August, we will be back at this point: Among other things, with the author’s reading from “Verlassenes Land” by Dr. Knuth Martens in Alfter.

The travel report: first aid transport in March 2022
The first aid convoy of Menschenfreude e.V. started on March 8 towards Ukraine. This was preceded by an unprecedented fundraising campaign with countless helpers. In the end, a team of 24 drivers set out with twelve vans to distribute the collected relief supplies in refugee camps – mostly specially converted churches. These are very moving and emotional experiences that we would like to share with you here.
